While I admire your optimism, I've been doing PHP/ MySQL from whenever the first Money Code I made was released (around jan '08) and I wouldn't dare try to create my own forum. I just don't know enough to make it reliable or secure. Try your hand in smaller projects at first. Ben, one of the former support members at ZB first started with a guestbook system (iirc) and I started with money codes and now onto the AIO etc. Try something similar, like a poll system for example to get some practice. |

The purpose isn't to make professional-grade bulletin board software, but to try your hand at something new (and rather large / complicated) and hopefully learn a few things along the way. It doesn't have to be reliable or secure to serve as a learning experience, fyi. |

That's true, but if you're going to make something like that, why not make it reliable and secure? Learning just what that entails is a good experience too.  P.S.: If mysql_real_escape_string was all it took to make something secure, then you wouldn't hear about these various hacks that people do. There is a whole lot more to security than defending against SQL injections. Edited by Reid, February 9, 2010, 4:59 am.
